Sunday Scramble: Arizona Hot Spring
Details
For this Sunday's adventure, we're heading to Arizona Hot Springs for a strenuous and rewarding desert hike through the rugged canyons of Lake Mead National Recreation Area! Expect towering canyon walls, winding desert washes, rocky scrambles, and spectacular sandstone scenery as we make our way toward one of the region's most unique natural hot springs.
Our journey takes us deep into a narrow canyon, where we'll discover natural hot spring pools tucked between towering rock walls. We'll have time to relax, soak in the warm mineral water, and enjoy the incredible desert surroundings before tackling the return hike. With a mix of adventure, beautiful landscapes, and a well-earned soak, this is a fantastic way to explore the desert!

📸 WHAT TO EXPECT
A challenging desert hike at a RELAXED pace, stopping for frequent breaks and photos. Expect sandy washes, uneven rocky terrain, occasional hands-on scrambling, and a sustained uphill return. We'll spend some time enjoying the hot springs before heading back. As a photographer, I will also coordinate some group photos.
Hot springs safety: Test water temperatures before entering, as some pools can be extremely hot. Avoid submerging your head in untreated hot spring water due to the risk of infection.
💡 PRO TIP: Start hydrating before you hit the trail. Drinking 8–16 oz of water with electrolytes about an hour beforehand can help your body stay ahead of the heat rather than trying to catch up once you're already dehydrated.
💥 WHAT IS SCRAMBLING?
Scrambling sits between hiking and climbing, involving hands-on movement over rocky terrain.
- Class 1 Hiking – Established trails and straightforward walking terrain.
- Class 2 Scrambling – Steep or rocky terrain requiring occasional hand use for balance.
🚗 CARPOOL MEETUP @ 6:30 AM
We'll meet at a Walmart in Henderson at 6:30 AM, departing promptly at 6:40 AM for the Arizona Hot Springs trailhead parking lot. We'll aim to begin hiking ~7:20 AM. Those driving separately can meet us directly at the Arizona Hot Springs trailhead parking lot.
