Calico Basin Scramble - Slab Rift

Calico Basin Scramble - Slab Rift is a moderate route to a very picturesque feature in Calico Basin. You will need to have decent fitness and scrambling skills. I will also require that you have approach shoes to join us for this route.

We will start with a warmup climb up the mountain with some simple obstacles. Our goal will be Slab Rift. We will stop for some great photo opportunities if we make good time. We can try some intermediate obstacles in the area, as well as on the way down.

Bring water and a snack. Be dressed and prepared for the weather.

Your hands need to be free for climbing, so a backpack or waist pack is needed. Loose bags in your hand are not safe or acceptable. If bringing bottled water, then please place inside your pack and not the outside pouches. Items can easily fall out of those pouches onto people below.

For everyone's safety and enjoyment, all participants must be fit enough and experienced enough to go.

Distance: About 2 miles scrambling - much more strenuous than a hike of that distance.
Elevation Gain: around 900 feet
Exposure: Some steep bits
Speed: About 1 - 2 mph
Time: About 2 - 3 hours. End times are not guaranteed

Please arrive early as parking may be at a premium. You may need to park legally along the road outside the picnic area. We begin on time, so I recommend getting to Calico Basin at least 15 minutes early.

Everyone starts on the Waitlist. You must have some verifiable scrambling experience to be moved to the Going List. Preference will be given to those who have done the Introduction to Scrambling event with me.

• If you are not properly equipped, you cannot go.
• Participants must stay with the group.
