Join us for the USF Data Science Speaker Series featuring David Aronchick, CEO of Expanso and a leading voice in distributed computing.

Today’s businesses increasingly rely on distributed compute to power applications and services. Moving complex models to the edge can significantly boost performance and responsiveness—but deploying and managing these models presents new challenges, often falling on already overstretched developers and SRE teams.
Enter the Bacalhau Project—an open-source platform designed to simplify and optimize distributed compute jobs across regions, clouds, and edge devices. Bacalhau makes it possible to deploy and run machine learning models exactly where the data and users are, enabling reliable, resilient, and partition-tolerant deployments. With Bacalhau, teams can focus on building great applications without worrying about the complexities of infrastructure.
In this talk, David will dive into:

  • The origins and evolution of the Bacalhau Project
  • How its architecture supports robust distributed computing
  • What’s next on the community-driven roadmap

About the Speaker:
David is the CEO of Expanso, the company behind Bacalhau. He previously led Compute over Data at Protocol Labs, drove open source ML strategy at Azure, launched Google Kubernetes Engine, and co-founded Kubeflow and the SAME project. He’s also held roles at Amazon, Chef, and three startups.
When he’s not architecting the future of compute, you’ll find him skiing, exploring global cuisine, or wrangling a busy schedule of kid activities.
