🌮 Hiking for Tacos: Waterfall Canyon 🌮
If it rains we will duck out and go to don carlos instead of hiking.
This one earns the tacos! We’re heading up Waterfall Canyon on Ogden’s east bench to a roughly 200-foot waterfall tucked into the mountainside. It’s one of Ogden’s classic local hikes, and the payoff at the top is worth every step.
The Hike
Distance: about 2.5 miles round trip
Elevation gain: about 1,000 feet
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours, including time at the falls
Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous
Fair warning: this is a step up from our previous Hiking for Tacos outings. The trail is short but climbs steadily the whole way, and the upper section gets steep and rocky, with some boulder-hopping and a little hands-on scrambling near the falls. We’ll go at a comfortable pace and regroup along the way, so nobody gets left behind. If you’ve been enjoying our other hikes and want a bit more of a challenge, this is a great one to try.
Meeting Details
We will meet at 4 PM at east end of 29th Street, Ogden. Parking fills up, so carpooling is encouraged.
What to Bring
Sturdy shoes with good grip (the rocks can be slick near the falls), water, a light layer, since it’s cooler in the canyon this time of year, and a headlamp if we’ll be finishing near dusk. Trekking poles are helpful on the way down.
Tacos!
After the hike, we’ll head to Don Carlos to refuel and hang out. Come for the waterfall, stay for the tacos.
