Ho Ho Go: Advent Of Code Live Competition/Party
Details
Come join us for an evening of fun Go hacking and very lighthearted Competition.
You do not need to know Go or be an experienced developer to participate. We are hoping that this will be a a great way to learn even if you are very new.
By December 2nd there will have been 2 days of this year's Advent Of Code. Each of those days contains 2 puzzles which means we will have 4 separate puzzles. These puzzle are typically very easy so they should make for a fun challenge for new gophers. We will be adding some optional challenges for more experienced gophers to keep things interesting for everyone.
As a group will be read each puzzle, then break into singles, small groups, and also have one person lead a live coding session on screen. This means that you can come to compete, cooperate, or even just watch and learn.
We will set aside about 30 minutes per puzzle and let people come up with solutions. Then as a group we will decide on the best solutions.
The twist? It won't be about speed! Instead we will select winners for multiple categories:
- Simplicity Is beautiful - Clean, minimal, and canonical Go.
- Rube Goldberg - Do it the most complicated way you can come up with in the time frame.
- `stdlib` obsessive - Do it with as many `stdlib` packages that we have covered this year as you can. (net/http, ctx, string, unsafe, crypto, errgroup, flag, os)
If it's a competition, what are the prizes?
- Bragging rights
- `GoWest`provided gopher plushies
- Personalized 3D printed gopher trophies
