Hike: Lower Millcreek Canyon

This Millcreek Canyon hike switch-backs along a well-defined forested trail in the lower Mt. Olympus Wilderness to an overlook of the Salt Lake Valley. This short out-and-back event features a round-trip distance of about 4.25 miles, and approximately 2371 feet of climbing. In the past different groups have averaged between 60 and 90 minutes each way on this trail. We’ll be trekking into a designated wilderness, so wilderness rules apply -- meaning we may need to split into sub-groups should there be a lot of participants. An after-event option is to rally for brunch/lunch and to socialize at Einstein’s Bagels. Meet Elliott at the Thayne Canyon trailhead, 3.2 miles up Millcreek Canyon at 8:30am. TH parking is limited. No Dogs.

Meeting Location: In Salt Lake City go to 3800 South Wasatch Boulevard and turn east. This is the road into Millcreek Canyon. Drive into the canyon 3.2-miles and the Thayne Canyon/Desolation Trail TH will be on your right. this is just past Millcreek Inn. A user-fee per vehicle is required to access Millcreek Canyon so bring money (DOLLAR BILLS recommended). There are restrooms at this location.
