Hike: Foothill Traverse
Details
This 6 mile out-and-back trek traverses the foothills sandwiched between North Salt Lake and Salt Lake City. Our route contours around about 3 miles each way (6-miles RT) over roller-coaster terrain on a combination of trails and fire roads climbing approximately 1,000 feet (though total elevation gain is more because of the rolling terrain). We’ll ramble through a Foothills Protection Area and snake along a section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
On a clear day this hike presents wonderful vistas of the Farmington Bay Bird Refuge, Antelope Island, the Great Salt Lake, and the Oquirrh and Stansbury Mountains. We’ll rally on the south end at an overlook to enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Wasatch Front framing the Salt Lake Valley. A post event option is to regroup at the Handle Bar for lunch and to socialize. Meet Elliott at Tunnel Springs Park, 1080 East Eaglepointe Drive in North Salt Lake at 10:00am. No dogs.
Trailhead Information: In Bountiful drive Eagle Ridge Drive east past the traffic circle up the hillside 1.7 miles to Eaglepointe Drive.
