Hike: Shoreline Trail (Antelope Island)
Details
This event spotlights a northern section of Antelope Island. Beginning from White Rock Bay, our itinerary is to hike a 5-mile clock-wise loop around the northwest shoreline beneath Buffalo Point. Over easy flat to rolling terrain, the trail contours along above the shoreline then crosses over the island’s spine in a short uphill section. We’ll regroup and socialize about two-thirds of the way before completing the loop – so bring the snacks you enjoy. We’ll be on well-defined trails the entire way. Plan on about 3.5-hours on the island.
Antelope Island has a very interesting geologic composition and this hike will showcase a fun snippet. In addition, we almost always see bison and sometimes antelope and coyotes on this north island tour, and one time, we saw big horn sheep. This winter adventure should avoid pesky micro fauna, but it is always wise to bring bug spray on Antelope Island.
Meet Elliott at the large causeway parking lot located east of the entrance booth on the south side of the Antelope Drive, at 10:00am. Bring money (DOLLAR BILLS) as a fee is required to drive across the causeway to Antelope Island State Park even if you have already purchased a state park pass, and to help defray gas expense for those driving carpool vehicles. No dogs.
Meeting Directions: Exit I-15 in Layton on Antelope Drive and drive west. Go west approximately 7 miles to the Antelope Island State Park entrance station. We will rally in the paved parking area located before the entrance station on the left (south) side of the road. We will arrange to carpool/caravan across the causeway to the trailhead from that location.
