This is a 7-mile trek around Sentry Peak on Antelope Island’s southern extremity south of Frary Peak. Our itinerary is to ascend the island’s southeastern flank gaining about 1,000 feet to a view point on the island’s spine, where on a clear day, we will enjoy marvelous vistas of the southwestern part of Antelope Island plus a wide arc of Utah’s Great Salt Lake. After regrouping and socializing at this rally point, our agenda is to loop back east returning to the trailhead. Our path will be on a combination of unpaved service roads and hiking trails. It is common to see wildlife to include bison and coyotes on this hike. A post hike option is to visit historic Fielding Garr Ranch before leaving the island. Plan on about 3.5-hours on the trail plus shuttle time across the causeway.
Meet Elliott at Antelope Island causeway parking lot located immediately east of the State Park entry station on the south side of the road at 9:00 am. Bring money (DOLLAR BILLS) as a fee is required to drive across the causeway to Antelope Island State Park, and to help defray gas expense for those driving carpool vehicles. This winter season adventure should avoid pesky micro fauna. No dogs.
Trailhead: Drive I-15 to Layton and exit on Antelope Drive. Drive west on Antelope Drive about 7-miles to the causeway parking lot located on the south side of the road just before the toll booth. If you take the West Davis Highway exit on Antelope Drive and drive west to the causeway parking lot. There are restrooms at this location.
