Great Salt Lake Shore Nature Walk – Saltair to the North

Join us for a relaxed, social nature walk along the shoreline of the Great Salt Lake, starting at historic Saltair and heading north along the exposed lakebed and shoreline. This walk highlights the wide-open beauty of the Great Salt Lake, with expansive salt flats, distant islands, and dramatic skies that change by the minute.

While this is primarily a social walk, we’ll naturally point out interesting features along the way, including how the shoreline forms, why the ground appears cracked or sandy in places, and how wildlife thrives in this unique environment. The shoreline is especially important for birds, and we may see or discuss species such as the snowy plover, American avocets, black-necked stilts, and other shorebirds that rely on the lake’s edges for feeding and nesting.

The total distance will be approximately 1 to 4 miles round trip, depending on conditions the day of the walk. We’ll move at an easy pace with plenty of time to stop, chat, take photos, and enjoy the scenery.

Terrain is flat and sandy, with little to no elevation gain, making this an easy and approachable walk rather than a strenuous hike.

Please bring water, sun protection, and footwear you don’t mind getting sandy or salty.
