Queer Book Club: Orlanda by Jacqueline Harpman
Details
Come discuss books and make new friends 🌈✨
!!! Please update your RSVP if you find out you cannot attend !!!
To get into the buurtcentrum, ring the doorbell near to the door (not the knob behind you!). The craft room is upstairs and to the left.
How the meeting works: While we are waiting for everyone to arrive, we have tea and get comfortable. Once most of the group is seated (please aim to arrive on time to help with this!) we go around introducing ourselves. From there we have a casual, loosely structured discussion that can go in whatever direction feels natural. Once we've talked about everything we want to related to the book we often hang out for a while later to chat about other things for anyone who wants to stay.
In September we will be back in De Uithoek buurtcentrum to discuss Orlanda (NOT Orlando! Don't buy the wrong book 😁) by Jacqueline Harpman. The book was originally written in French. The English translation is available for purchase, and the Dutch translation is available at de bibliotheek (and also for purchase).
Aline is a thirty-five year old literature professor. One day when she was reading while waiting for her train, the masculine part of her soul, which she calls Orlanda has decided to leave her body. Her suppressed spirit chose a handsome young man called Lucien Lefrène, who was seated across from her, to inhabit. After having settled into this new body, Orlanda is going to discover new feelings and have new experiences. Aline would only understand later, when she re-encounters Orlanda that she is no longer "whole." She is swept up in a whirlwind of adventures where her hidden desires and facets of her personality will be revealed to her.
Everyone is welcome who has read the book (or DNF, and is okay with spoilers) by the time of the meetup. The book club is hosted in English.
Hope to see you there! 🏳️🌈📚
