About us

UX for Change was launched on March 8th 2015, at the Talk UX Conference in Manchester, UK, and is the first organisation of its kind. UX for Change emerged from the founder, Sandra Gonzalez, original challenge of how to mobilise the UX design community to get involved with the 2013 UK legislation that focused on teaching children as young as five how to code, but with no plans on teaching them how to design human-centred experiences for the improvement of their community and their own lives.

The organisation has been active for a decade across the world, and its focus has widened to meet new challenges focused on supporting positive social and planetary impact, such as utilising technology to aid refugees, providing internet safety tools and techniques for gender-diverse children, and giving consumers powerful information about their carbon footprint, to name a few.

The projects and ways in which the organisation engages the UX community have continually evolved depending on the needs and context. Still, at the core, UX for Change has always been about creating meaningful connections. We are committed to connecting the purpose-driven sector with the people interested in learning and applying responsible design practices while promoting collaboration, critical thinking, accountability, and social impact.

There are many UX for Change chapters around the world in London in the United Kingdom, Barcelona in Spain, Sydney in Australia, New York, Central Florida, Miami, and Los Angeles in the United States.

After three successful cohorts, the Responsible Design for Change Fellowship is back, join as a Regenerative Leader to explore in a safe space.

This Fellowship is for you if you want to:

    • Take stock of how much entrenching yourself in the way corporations operate has impacted your career dreams and well-being.
    • Get clarity on your next career step by connecting the dots between your personal and professional journey to figure out the type of leader you want to become.
    • Start steering your organisation towards responsible practices by strengthening your ability to push back when business goals are the only consideration of success.
    • Connect with a network of people who understand your curiosity for applying responsible practices throughout your life, in your pursuit of becoming a good ancestor.

What is the Responsible Design for Change Fellowship?
It's an unlearning and learning experience like no other, created to provide you with a safe space to explore how to transform your design, research and leadership practices. It is also an invitation to be part of a community interested in figuring out how we create a world that takes into account the complexity of the systems we design within, the redistribution of power, and how we can shift our practices to take into account the next seven generations in our decision-making.

    Structure & Time commitment
Phase 1: Responsible Design Training (5 Weeks)
You’ll begin the unlearn with 5 weeks of self-paced, on-demand modules focused on the foundations of responsible design.
Each week concludes with a 1.5-hour group coaching session with Cecilia, your Responsible Design Coach, to help solidify your understanding.
During this phase, you will have a chance to reflect on the learning module content, engage with additional readings and bring any questions or reflections to explore with Cecilia during the weekly coaching sessions.
During this phase, both Individual Contributors and Regenerative Team Leaders will follow a similar learning path.

Phase 2: Practical Application for Social Impact (8 Weeks)
In the next 8 weeks, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned by leading a team of Individual Contributors to guide them through a regenerative design process.
Your focus will be on leading the creation of meaningful solutions for ELWP.
This phase is your opportunity to bring your skills into action, lead your team to co-designing for real-world impact with guidance, collaboration, and support.

Phase 3: Community Connection (6 Months)
After you successfully complete the Fellowship, you will be invited to The Collective, the Fellowship Alumni community created to support each other’s progress and experiences after the Fellowship.
