About us

UX for Change was launched on March 8th 2015, at the Talk UX Conference in Manchester, UK, and is the first organisation of its kind. UX for Change emerged from the founder, Sandra Gonzalez, original challenge of how to mobilise the UX design community to get involved with the 2013 UK legislation that focused on teaching children as young as five how to code, but with no plans on teaching them how to design human-centred experiences for the improvement of their community and their own lives.

The organisation has been active for a decade across the world, and its focus has widened to meet new challenges focused on supporting positive social and planetary impact, such as utilising technology to aid refugees, providing internet safety tools and techniques for gender-diverse children, and giving consumers powerful information about their carbon footprint, to name a few.

The projects and ways in which the organisation engages the UX community have continually evolved depending on the needs and context. Still, at the core, UX for Change has always been about creating meaningful connections. We are committed to connecting the purpose-driven sector with the people interested in learning and applying responsible design practices while promoting collaboration, critical thinking, accountability, and social impact.

There are many UX for Change chapters around the world in London in the United Kingdom, Barcelona in Spain, Sydney in Australia, New York, Central Florida, Miami, and Los Angeles in the United States.

Curious about The Catalyst but not sure if it’s right for you? Join us for an open Ask Me Anything session where we’ll walk you through everything this fully funded scholarship has to offer — and answer every question on your mind.

    What is The Catalyst?
The Catalyst is a $2,505 fully funded, 18-month scholarship from UX for Change created for tech professionals — UX designers, product managers, engineers, and data scientists — who are ready to explore heart-led, regenerative leadership. No prior leadership experience required. Just curiosity and a willingness to grow.

The journey unfolds in three phases:

    • Observe (Jul–Dec 2026) — Shadow UX for Change founder Sandra Gonzalez as she leads a leadership team, plus 3 personal 1:1 coaching sessions
    • Learn (Jan–Jul 2027) — Join Fellowship Cohort 5 as an Individual Contributor, fully funded, to build responsible design foundations
    • Lead (Jul–Dec 2027) — Return as a Regenerative Leader guiding your own team, and walk away with a genuine leadership portfolio

    At this AMA, we’ll cover:

    • Who The Catalyst is for (and who it isn’t)
    • What “regenerative leadership” actually means in practice
    • Time commitments and what a typical month looks like
    • How previous scholarship recipients have grown through the program
How to put together a strong application before the June 30 deadline

Whether you’ve been sitting on the idea of stepping into leadership for a while or just discovered UX for Change today, this is your chance to get honest, direct answers before applications close.

    🗓️ Applications close June 30, 2026 — don’t wait.
