UI is Not UX — For Real presented by Everett McKay

Details
Hey there, folks! We have an exciting announcement to make - Everett McKay has prepared a presentation for us called "UI is Not UX — For Real". You might remember Everett from our past events - he's a super-talented UX designer and is currently the Principle of UX Design at UX Design Edge. Not only that, he's been teaching UX design since 2003 and has even written several books related to UX and UI. Here's a sneak peek of what Everett's presentation will cover:
Have you ever been asked to explain the difference between UI and UX, and struggled to find an answer? Hopefully the person asking graciously says “Oh yeah, that makes sense.” But did it really? Having recently watched dozens of UX designers on YouTube struggle to give a good distinction, I’m not optimistic. (Don't believe me? Ask a UX designer and see how they fare.)
What exactly is the difference between UX and UI design, and how does this impact our work? Come and join the UX Speakeasy Meetup on April 19th to find out. But here is a hint: UX design boils down to designing the what and why, where UI design boils down to they how. And unlike the how, the what and why is often not best explored with a sketch or wireframe.
Now, you may be wondering why you should care. After all, isn't this just a debate over minor details? My answer is a resounding “no”…getting the right distinction is critical to our success as UX designers. In my opinion, a great UI can’t save a poor UX because if the UX isn’t good, nobody will care about the rest. As UX designers we must figure out that what and why first to help our team do its best how.
I hope you can attend this event! As always there will be food along with a vegan option. I am looking forward to Everett's talk and catching up with everyone in the community.
