The book - Deceptive Patterns: Exposing the Tricks Tech Companies Use to Control You
Jiri's take:
The intersection of Ethics and Technology was never as topical as it is today. There isn't a single aspect of our lives not touched by tech, therefore making it impossible to escape the impact of unethical tech choices. The leverage seems to be on the side of business, and groups often do not appear in plain sight. Many employ techniques that abuse how we think and behave, nudging us to take an action that might not be in our best interest. I'm thrilled that Harry is pioneering the Deceptive Patterns movement for us all.
OK, now, finally, to the book!
In Harry's words, here's what to expect: "Step into the shadowy world of deceptive patterns and learn how online businesses exploit consumers through carefully designed tricks and traps. In this eye-opening book, Harry Brignull unveils how these techniques work and why they’re used, naming and shaming many well-known brands along the way. Regulations are changing rapidly, and we're seeing a big rise in legal enforcement. But is it enough to protect consumers?"
