3. Mentoring those new to the field
4. Give and get career advice
5. Share experiences
6. Explore use cases
7. Provide resources

It's Time We Claim Our Agency

Online event

There's a gap. Can you see it?

We know we have valuable insights, yet we aren't always heard in the ways we expect. We want to push for more human, societal, environmental, and communal value, but our colleagues lack some of the same enthusiasm or understanding. We fight hard for a seat at the table, but sitting there isn't really relieving our frustrations.

For designers at all levels, changing how business decisions are made is the hardest problem to solve. To get there, we have to leave our comfort zones. We have to claim our agency as design leaders. This talk will provide pragmatic ways you can make more business sense, challenge the status quo and be the leader you'd want to work for.

About Ryan
Ryan is the author of Business Thinking for Designers and CEO of Second Wave Dive; a foundational school for the next generation of design leaders. As CEO of Second Wave Dive, he aligns the company around three core values: develop leadership abilities of the many, deliberately practice hard-to-learn skills in safe spaces, and nurture confidence via continuous, small, and well-focused changes.

For 20+ years, he worked as a designer and executive at Apple, Electronic Arts, USAA, Nestlé, and Comcast. Focused on developing high-performing technology, teams, and organizations, he has a hybrid background in interaction design, front-end development, product management, and strategy. He believes it’s good to practice, it’s better to be curious, and best to listen to others. The best leaders love to be led.

He is a father, a husband, and an avid fan of Liverpool Football Club. His life experiences include working on a farm and acting in a Staind music video.
