Our talks and speakers
Harnessing creative user research methods
Ben Garvey-Cubb
We're really pleased to welcome Ben back to UX Wales. Ben will be talking us through how they learnt about the barriers that would prevent customers from taking part in a greener future through bidirectional electric vehicle charging.
Introducing Ben
Ben Garvey-Cubbon currently serves as the Head of User Experience at Kaluza Flex, where he shapes innovative UX strategies for sustainable energy solutions. With over a decade of experience spanning organizations like OVO Energy and the Office for National Statistics, Ben has honed his expertise in user-centered design, discovery research, and continuous evaluative testing.
Making Sense of Service Patterns
Liam Collins & Adrián Ortega
Service patterns are gaining traction as a way to reduce duplication of effort for design teams and improve consistency for end users. But how do we establish a solid framework for them?
In this session, Liam and Adrián will share their work exploring how service patterns could provide simple, reusable templates to streamline the process of designing Welsh public services. Instead of starting from scratch, teams could adapt these templates to create more consistent, user-friendly experiences—regardless of their technical skills.
Introducing Liam & Adrián
Liam is an interaction designer and design educator with 20 years of experience across digital, in both private and public sectors. Now at the Centre for Digital Public Services, he works to design and improve public services in Wales through user-centred design. As a lecturer, he has taught user-centred design and design thinking to Health and Social Care students, equipping them with practical tools to drive innovation across their organisations.
Adrián is a senior designer at the Centre for Digital Public Services. With a background in philosophy and education, he’s worked for over 10 years in content and design across different sectors. Passionate about co-design, collaboration, and working in the open, he approaches the design of services through the lens of information and communication. Adrian sees user-centred design as a catalyst for change: shaping teams, organisations, and services to deliver better outcomes for people.
