From Judgement to Compassion

with Visiting Teacher Gen Kelsang Demo
When others act in ways we find difficult, unkind, or harmful, it is easy for our mind to become disturbed. We may feel anger, judgment, or discouragement, and in this way we lose our own inner peace.
In this special talk, Gen Keslang Demo, Resident Teacher at the International Kadampa Retreat Center-Grand Canyon and US Midwestern National Spiritual Director, will share practical methods for maintaining a peaceful and compassionate mind, even when faced with challenging people and situations. By learning to distinguish between a person and their delusions, we can begin to let go of judgment and instead develop patience, understanding, and genuine compassion.
Through clear explanation and guided reflection, we will explore how all living beings, even those who act negatively, are seeking happiness but are confused about how to find it. Recognizing this allows us to respond with wisdom rather than reactivity, and to protect our own mind from anger and discouragement.
By training in these methods, we can learn to keep a positive and balanced mind, contribute to a more harmonious world, and deepen our love for others—without needing to agree with their actions.
Complementary community brunch follows the special Sunday morning meditation.
