Storytelling Picnic

NO WRITING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
We are meeting simply to explore real stories—and learn how to shape them into short fiction.

The theme for this week is: “A Moment That Changed Me (That No One Knows About)”

Prompt: Write about a moment that shifted something inside you, even if no one else noticed.

**Bring a pen and paper, or feel free to type on your phone. You’re also welcome to bring a short story you’ve already written.
Optional: a blanket, snacks, or drinks.
This will be a picnic-style inaugural event.
No pressure! You're welcome to simply show up and be present.

The goal of Valencia Storytelling is to create a space where people can write what is real, and give it form through storytelling.
This group is not about academic writing or perfect technique.
It’s about honesty, expression, and learning how to turn lived experience into meaningful stories.

We don’t treat any story as off-limits.
We write, reflect, and share in order to:
• Understand our own experiences more clearly
• See different perspectives through storytelling
• Turn real moments into structured, compelling short fiction
• Connect with others beyond small talk

We value honesty, emotional courage, creativity, and thoughtful communication, and we’re building a community around that.

The typical meeting begins with 10–15 min. to arrive, settle in, and connect.
We then introduce a simple theme or prompt for the session.

You’ll have time to write, reflect, and (if you choose) share your work.

If the group is larger, we may break into smaller circles to keep the space intimate and conversational.
We close by coming back together to reflect on what came up, through writing, through story, and through each other.
