Cinder Hills OHV (Flagstaff)

Get ready to trade the pavement for the volcanic playground of Cinder Hills OHV Area! We will traverse through the surreal, obsidian-colored craters and ponderosa pines hitting the ash fields for an unforgettable weekend of high-altitude adventure. Located just outside Flagstaff, the Cinders offers a unique traction challenge that you won’t find anywhere else in Arizona, making it the perfect spot to build your technical skills while surrounded by a community of fellow Valley Jeepsters. Let’s kick up some "moon dust," and experience the thrill of tackling one of the most otherworldly landscapes in the Southwest. All experience levels are welcome, but a sense of adventure is required!

This Adventure is purposely scheduled to overlap with the Overland Expo which we will be attending on Saturday. Post in the comments if you’re planning to do the same and want to meet up at the Expo.

We will follow a loop around the OHV area on the official 777 route. This is considered an easy beginner trail, but we will be making it a bit more challenging by attempting to extend it via loop around the Double Crater. With the crater, it’s still an easy level 3 to 4 but will add couple of steep hill climbs to our trip. No rock obstacles here but chances of getting stuck in the lava sand are high. Bring recovery traction boards if you have them! I would not recommend this trail for heavy Gladiator overland builds. Offroad tires are a MUST!

If everything goes according to plan, we should be done with the trail in 2 to 3 hours. We may or may not have time to do lunch on the trail, bring it just in case though.
