Terra Nova Adventure Playground parking is situated near the northwest corner of River Road and the northern beginning point of the West Dyke trail. The meeting point as shown on the map is correct. It's the parking lot on River Road, near the Terra Nova Adventure playground. There are two washrooms and several picnic tables nearby. We'll meet at the picnic tables. There's a bigger parking lot just before you come to the picnic area, and you could also park there. If you happen to park at the parking lot at the end of Westminster Highway, just walk to the dyke, turn north (to the right), and you will soon see our meeting point by the picnic area.
There are many different views for painting. Follow the dyke path along the shores of the Fraser River where you'll find views of the river and the North Shore Mountains, or walk along the West Dyke and the wetlands bordering the Pacific Ocean, with herons, wild grasses, weathered drift wood and old dock posts from bygone days. There's even a hidden path that runs off the dyke between a copse of trees and along the edge of the wetlands. If it's a bit windy, just walk along the trails of Terra Nova Park to find a more protected spot. There are many flowers in bloom, including lupines, wild roses, yellow irises and wild flowers that I don't know the name of! See my photos for various views in the area.
We'll meet at 11 am, then go our separate ways, then meet back together to share our work. No judgment, just sharing our own experiences for those who wish to share. If you come late, please join one of us or meet us at the end at 2:00 pm.
I'm bringing my oil paints and easel, but please feel free to bring watercolours or any other medium you wish. All levels of experience are welcome. Don't be shy, just join us!
Dress for the weather and bring sunscreen, maybe a hat, a chair and whatever art materials and snacks/drinks that you might want.
I look forward to meeting you on Sunday, May 19th!
