EASY TO INTERMEDIATE HIKE

Join us as we take the 9:50am ferry to the Sunshine Coast, hike up Soames Hill for a stunning view, and then walk into Gibsons, where you can have lunch overlooking the harbour while enjoying the scenery! You can also sample a huge variety of olive oil and balsamic vinegar at a local shop! We all will take a bus back to the ferry terminal, leaving on either the 3:35pm or 4:10pm ferry.

NOTE: Although the Gibsons (Soames Hill) hike is generally an easy hike/walk, there is one steep section where hiking poles are recommended.

We will meet at the ticket window for foot passengers at the ferry terminal. If you do not wish to park at the terminal, there is free parking at the Gleneagles Community Centre (15 minute walk away).

Round-trip ferry (foot passenger fare) to Langdale is around $14 and bus ride in Gibsons is around $2.

OVERVIEW OF HIKE

We start by taking a beautiful ferry ride (950 AM sailing) from Horseshoe Bay to the Sunshine Coast, passing small and large islands and enjoying incredible views of the mountains lining Howe Sound.

After departing the ferry, we walk through an impressive second growth forest and hike up to the top of Soames Hill, where, from two viewpoints, we will have spectacular views of Howe Sound, the North Shore mountains, and Keats, Bowen, and Gambler Islands. The total elevation gain from the ferry is about 300m. After taking a short break, we head over to beautiful Gibsons, where the Canadian TV series “The Beachcombers” was filmed. You have the option of having lunch at Molly’s Reach (featured in the TV show) or various other restaurants overlooking Gibsons Landing. After lunch, you can relax, check out the shops (including a wonderful olive oil and balsamic shop that offers tastings), and maybe get dessert at one of the local bakeries.
