Meatless Meetup

Volunteering at our Thanksgiving potluck on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend is a great way to meet people and make new friends.

Volunteer shifts are typically 1.5 hours long. Volunteers get a free raffle ticket and get to eat first. While all attendees need to bring a dish for the potluck, volunteers do not need to pay an entrance donation.

Look through the list of roles. In the RSVP question, include your email address and your 1st & 2nd & 3rd choice of roles. (Only you and the hosts will see. The volunteer coordinator will contact you in September.) If you sign up to volunteer, please also sign up for the main event as well.

Tear Down & Clean up Crew: This crew puts the tables and chairs away and cleans the floor. They ensure proper recycling, composting etc. and clean up of the hall and kitchen. They report to Duane. (many volunteers needed)

Kitchen Assistants: This team works in the kitchen cooking roasts, cutting dishes into serving size, ensuring each dish has a serving utensil, overseeing the warming trays, rinsing empty dishes, cleaning the kitchen, etc. They report to the kitchen manager, Val.

Main Check-in Attendants. These are our gregarious, friendly front faces of the event. They check people in, accept entrance donations, and answer questions. These volunteers report to Sam.

Food Check-In Assistants-Food Judges: These are our knowledgable vegan foodies who check ingredient lists etc. They also double as food judges. These volunteers report to Jon.

Buffet Table Attendants: These volunteers oversee the food tables, making sure each buffet line has salad, roast, potatoes, etc. and that food is placed in the right section. They also ensure diners in the buffet line follow food safe procedures and don't take more than their share. These volunteers report to Simon.

Raffle Table Attendants sit at the raffle table to monitor the table, sell raffle tickets, and then facilitate the dispersal of prizes when winners’ tickets are called out. These volunteers report to Brian. (a few volunteers needed)

Join us once again for a vegan compassionate Thanksgiving Potluck and partake in this feast of thanks and bounty with fabulous prizes! PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

Doors open at 5:00. Entrance is by donation. Proceeds from this event will go to cover the hall rental and Meatless Meetup costs.

This is your chance to build community. This is a family-friendly event, so please bring your loved ones young and old, veg or non. Though many attendees may not be vegan, please be sure to bring a vegan dish, as this is an animal-friendly event.

Who says Thanksgiving can't be vegan? Let's show them by bringing mostly traditional Thanksgiving-y dishes, vegan style!

Please bring a vegan dish, cut and portioned for serving, with at least 8 servings (=8 big scoops). Vegan means no dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, whey/casein, or other animal byproducts. You don't have to cook, though--vegan food from a deli is A-OK. Please bring an ingredients list for your dish.

You do not have to cook. Store-bought food is fine to bring, it just won't be eligible for a prize.

Also, please bring a plate, cup, napkin, and cutlery for yourself, and a serving utensil for your dish. (a bag for your dirty dishes would be useful, too)

Food judging 5:45--6:00
Volunteers eat at 6:00
Buffet tables open to everyone, in order of table number, at 6:15.
Raffle draws throughout the evening

Choices Market is kindly donating some vegan roasts and pumpkin pies. Plant Veda is donating a scoop of strawberries and cream Nora's ice cream for each attendee!

There will be fabulous prizes for the best appetizer, best entree, and best dessert.

This event will also feature the opportunity to win prizes in a raffle! Please bring some loonies and toonies to participate.

We're having dinner at one of our favourite vegan restaurants, MeeT in Yaletown. This delicious menu has been chosen to enable us to sample numerous items.

For $22.50 CASH ONLY, paid upon arrival after seating, each diner will receive a portion of the following:
