The Vancouver Venturers Walking Club (officially the Vancouver 'Venturers Volkssport Club) was formed in 1997 and we have been on Meetup since 2018. Our club now has more than 400 full-fledged (annual dues-paying) members. We have a lot of fun and are always keen to welcome newcomers. We enjoy outdoor walks throughout the year, RAIN OR SHINE, all over Metro Vancouver and occasionally farther afield. If you are looking for something to do that's healthful, non-competitive, and provides the opportunity to meet new people, you may well find that our club fits the bill.
Our walks are restricted to club members who have paid $15 for a 12-month membership. However, if you would like to try one or two walks before committing yourself to a paid membership, you do have that option. (You would still need to pay $1.00 for each walk.) With very rare exceptions, all our walks start at 10:00 am SHARP. Walkers register (sign in) at the start point between 9:30 am and 9:55 am. Please be on time; we do not accommodate latecomers.

Our walks are round trip walks, which return to the start point. Almost all of our walks are easily accessible by transit and there is usually ample free parking at the start location, although that is not the case in and near downtown Vancouver, where pay parking is the norm. There's always a choice between a 10 km route and a shorter (usually 5 km) route. Walking at a moderate pace without interruption, most people can expect to complete a 10 km walk in about 2 hours and a 5 km walk in approximately 1 hour. This year we have 79 different routes and are hosting walks on 206 days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays). Very few walkers bring their dogs, but leashed well-behaved dogs are welcome on our walks.
Our walks typically attract between 20 and 40 participants. At every walk, upon arriving at the start point, you will pay a participation fee of $1.00. Our annual membership fees and walk fees cover our costs; we are strictly non-profit.
Immediately following a walk, some of us will go to a designated eatery nearby to enjoy a nice lunch and more conversation.

Route Description:
A scenic walk through two municipalities, from Vancouver to Burnaby Heights with view of Vancouver downtown, the North Shore and Burrard Inlet. On the way back, pass a heritage building opened in 1914.Immediately following the walk, you may wish to join some of your fellow club members at the nearby lunch venue.

Walk in Richmond - Terra Nova/Sea Island - West Dyke & Railway Greenway

Route Description:
Come Walk With Us on part of the old railway route now converted to walking paths as we walk to the Middle Arm Dyke pathway. While walking on this dyke trail beside the Middle Arm of the Fraser River we get to watch many planes taking off and landing at the Vancouver Airport. As we continue, this Middle Arm Dyke path changes to the West Dyke path and if at the right time of year you will see many herons, eagles and thousands of Snow Geese. Don’t miss this walk. This is one of 11 walks in our “Explore Richmond” series.Immediately following the walk, you may wish to join some of your fellow club members for lunch at the designated eatery nearby.

Explore the northern part of Pacific Spirit Regional Park from NW Marine Dr to University Boulevard, parts of which are not covered in our other walks. Get your answer to "why all the fallen trees?" Enjoy the panoramic views along the Spanish Banks beaches.Immediately following the walk, you may wish to join some of your fellow club members at the nearby lunch venue.

Route Description: This walk will start along scenic Burnaby Mountain golf course trails, heading up Shellmont and continuing along the dirt road past the traditional Coast Salish Watch House. From there we will proceed to Stoney Creek, one of the best spots in Metro Vancouver to view salmon migration from October to mid December.
