The Vancouver Venturers Walking Club (officially the Vancouver 'Venturers Volkssport Club) was formed in 1997 and we have been on Meetup since 2018. Our club now has more than 400 full-fledged (annual dues-paying) members. We have a lot of fun and are always keen to welcome newcomers. We enjoy outdoor walks throughout the year, RAIN OR SHINE, all over Metro Vancouver and occasionally farther afield. If you are looking for something to do that's healthful, non-competitive, and provides the opportunity to meet new people, you may well find that our club fits the bill.
Our walks are restricted to club members who have paid $15 for a 12-month membership. However, if you would like to try one or two walks before committing yourself to a paid membership, you do have that option. (You would still need to pay $1.00 for each walk.) With very rare exceptions, all our walks start at 10:00 am SHARP. Walkers register (sign in) at the start point between 9:30 am and 9:55 am. Please be on time; we do not accommodate latecomers.
Please note: Although the number of attendees indicated for any event may appear low, be assured that you will be walking with many club members who have not RSVP’d. We rarely have fewer than 15 participants at any of our walks.
Our walks are round trip walks, which return to the start point. Almost all of our walks are easily accessible by transit and there is usually ample free parking at the start location, although that is not the case in and near downtown Vancouver, where pay parking is the norm. There's always a choice between a 10 km route and a shorter (usually 5 km) route. Walking at a moderate pace without interruption, most people can expect to complete a 10 km walk in about 2 hours and a 5 km walk in approximately 1 hour. This year we have 79 different routes and are hosting walks on 206 days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays). Very few walkers bring their dogs, but leashed well-behaved dogs are welcome on our walks.
Our walks typically attract between 20 and 40 participants. At every walk, upon arriving at the start point, you will pay a participation fee of $1.00. Our annual membership fees and walk fees cover our costs; we are strictly non-profit.
Immediately following a walk, some of us will go to a designated eatery nearby to enjoy a nice lunch and more conversation.

Route Description:
Enjoy walking the Arbutus Greenway, Marpole neighbourhoods and along the extensive boardwalk beside the Fraser River, where salt and freshwater meet as the Fraser meets the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful views of the Fraser River from the boardwalks that cross restored tidal marshes and snake between stands of poplar and alder trees. Barges, boats and log booms on the river and the Vancouver Airport runways are just beyond. This part of the walk is the highlight and not to be missed.Immediately following the walk, you may wish to join some of your fellow club members at the nearby lunch venue.

North Vancouver - Capilano River Regional Park - Cleveland Dam

migrating salmon, and take in spectacular views of Capilano Lake and the Lions” (from park

Route Description:
We will see 3 very unique parks in the heart of Richmond. Paulik Park is quite small (6 acres) but interesting, (make sure you see the “House of Roots” sculpture) Garden City Community Park is large (24 acres) all planned to create the great outdoors in the city. Lagoons for water storage and habitat for waterfowl, many different tree specimens all labeled so we know what they are, and watch for the rabbits. The last park we walk through (“Garden City Lands” - 136 acres) is in the development stage.
The 6 km walk will only go to two parks.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
The 10 km route will take us on trails through Central Park all the way to Everett Crowley Park and Avalon Pond. We will return from Champlain Heights via more trails and pathways through parks and some residential areas with lots of trees.
