*Daisies* and Meshes of the Afternoon - 2 films and intro

Details

Let's have a Silly Sunday morning with 2 fun, oddly satisfying experimental films... **Read to the bottom NOW for other fun stuff**This 2 film program highlights 2 exceptional artists, pioneers in feminist filmmaking: Věra Chytilová and Maya Deren.

#1. Daisies (1966) trailer: https://youtu.be/9vBGo95SJz4?si=b_qh9JwsWkrnmfa8 Two bored Czech women play pranks and rebel against a materialist society. (1 hr 15 mins, Czech w Eng subtitles)
Stylistically anarchic & spiritedly played, Daisies is a liberating rebuke of polite society that will bring the rebel out of viewers who are up for the freewheeling ride. It is cool, weird, and fun…A statement against the violence in this world.

Brace yourself for some of the most exuberant Pop Art imagery ever put on screen. "Literally one of the greatest films ever made, but very difficult to explain why".

#2. Meshes of the Afternoon(1943) – A woman falls asleep & has vivid dreams that may or may not be happening in reality. (14 mins, Eng) An extraordinary piece of avant garde filmmaking which predates the work of David Lynch & others. Voted 16th greatest film of all time. "One of the most influential works in experimental cinema” Trailer: MESHES OF THE AFTERNOON SILENT TRAILER (1943) - YouTube
