How much do you walk every week? Let’s watch a brand new Canadian documentary about walking & the place it holds in our lives & our health. It'll be shown in the (air conditioned) ‘Alliance Francaise’ on Cambie St, near Canada Line station. Made by Quebecois filmmaker Ms Vali Fugulin.

(Note the film itself has Eng subtitles)

In an age of sedentary living, Made to Walk travels the world to meet scientists and walkers, revealing how a gesture as simple as walking can transform our lives, and what we risk losing if we stop doing so.

Ms Fugulin is known for her sensitive and deeply human approach to filmmaking.

With gorgeous landscapes around the globe, many shot from a bird’s-eye view of drones, the doc looks at everyone from a Brazilian food vendor who treks the hills of favelas to an elderly Japanese woman who slowly navigates pedestrian streets, connecting with her neighbours.
“Everything is linked to walking”.

To follow the theme, want to meet early for a 20 min walk? If you're able to join at 545 pm, meet up in the lobby & we'll go for a stroll nearby.

To go in for the film together, let's meet in their lobby bakery/cafe at 615 pm, before the film begins for a quick snack & chat. Then we can walk into the theatre together. Please arrive early, as we won't be able to save seats. I will update the message stream with our seat location.

After the film, we can have a short chat about the film in the lobby, or simply share your comments in the meetup message stream later.

Hope to see you there! A bientot!

The beautiful Alliance Francaise building opened in 2024 and offers arts, language & cultural programs celebrating everything French. It's located a 6 min walk from the Langara/49th Canada Line. There is paid underground parking. I'm not sure about the street parking situation.
