What we’re about
The growth in interest of converting a van or other tiny home to function off grid either as a full time home or as a weekend warriors get away has never been higher and there are various ways to achieve that goal, Buy a finished van; pay someone to do the conversion for you, but what this group is about, doing it yourself, or perhaps with peer support or the odd bit of expert help bought in. Over the next few months we will hopefully be getting back to face to face meetings where we can organise workshops and otherwise get together to learn and share our ideas on creating the perfect of grid conversion.
We will concentrate on electrics, plumbing, insulation, sound proofing, ventilation & interior layout, everything you need to create a core installation that you can then add your own ideas to personalise to your own lifestyle requirements. Another important aspect is collective experience, it's just as much about knowing what not to do in given circumstances so as not to waste money on unecessary work or ill advised purchases. Interests ranging from a single solar panel to charge your electronics, through to building your own lithium battery or underfloor heating system nothing is off-limits.
The Shcool element in the title is connected with a project I'm working on, an online resource for personal training in all off-grid related topics which is progressing and I plan to develop further going forward.
