Needs a location

-- This event is suitable for beginners.

Come and get the chance to speak in a supportive and friendly environment. Public Speaking will boost your confidence and give you more power to speak and to be listened to in both your personal and professional life.

-- What makes this public speaking session different from others you ask?

There is a strong emphasis on self-expression, creativity, trial and error, and most importantly, speaking practice!

-- What will you gain from this event?

  • Gain confidence by overcoming your fear of public speaking
  • Learn to think on your feet with our Impromptu speaking format
  • Get feedback and improve your public speaking with a real audience
  • Tips and opportunities to practice: body language, voice, tone, pitch, uses of stories, use of pauses, humour, etc...

-- Here's how it works:

I may choose to change the format from time to time based on numbers, and to practice different aspects of public speaking in order to keep it challenging

You will put your name in a hat/bowl and when your name is chosen, you will be asked to perform.

You will speak for 2 minutes on a random topic given by the audience. This is called an impromptu speech.

We will do 2-3 rounds of speaking followed by a feedback session at the end of the workshop.

-- Public Speaking suggestions:

TIP: Give your impromptu speech the following 3 sections below.

  1. Introduction ("Today, I'm going to talk about....")
  2. Body ("Here is my personal experience....")
  3. Conclusion ("So, my key message is ....")

Each speech is to be 2 minutes long.

You're not obligated to speak, although I may strongly encourage you to do so.

Public Speaking Practice Wednesdays

Needs a location

We would like to invite all speakers of intermediate level and beyond to join us at our Public Speaking Classes. They are friendly, supportive, full of energy, and a great place to learn overall. Our classes are interactive and structured in a way that allows you to practice as much as possible. Feedback being a key ingredient in becoming a better speaker so all our sessions dedicate time for that, and to add to the mix just in case things get a bit too comfortable we have several coaches with varying skillsets to change things up.

-- What makes this session different from our other classes and competitors?

- Aside from a more challenging structure, this class differs from our beginners in a way that you will be amongst students who are committed to improving themselves and thereby increasing the level of expectation and perhaps motivating and inspiring you at the same time.
- You are guaranteed to get a chance to speak – not all competitors offer that.

-- What will you gain from this event?

  • Gain confidence by delivering a speech with more impact and seeing the changes you make
  • Gain new techniques and learn things like pausing, pivoting, voice, tone, pitch, stage presence, audience interaction… and more.
  • A chance to get real feedback from fellow coaches and students on your level

-- Is this class suited to me?

All else being equal as we are always growing and improving, we expect our students to be confident in projecting their voice so they can be heard clearly, able to stand in front of an audience of 15-20 people without the desperate need to run off stage and to keep a posture that seems confident (body language).

We believe speakers can achieve this level within 5-10 classes in our beginners’ classes, and we welcome and encourage you to do so. If you haven’t practiced for a long time or are unsure you can always attend our beginner’s class for free and see where your level is at.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE:

Workshops will change every week. We will aim to practice a combination of different techniques through varying exercises.

  • Each student will speak a few times with feedback after each time
  • Speaking duration 2-3 minutes
  • Audience size 15-20
  • Impromptu Speaking

Techniques include: Pausing, Pivoting, Voice pitch and tone, Stage presence, Audience interaction, Advocacy, Debate, Storytelling etc….

Exercises could include: Speaking on controversial topics, Selling something, Debating, Advocating for something you aren’t fully convinced on, showing emotion and thereby making your audience feel, and many more…

EVENT DURATION – 6pm – 9pm with a small break in between. Please note we start and end strictly on time.

LOCATION – Closest stations Moorgate or Liverpool Street Station

Theatre Delicatessen
Deli Studios – Rehearsal rooms & Bar
2 Finsbury Avenue
EC2M 2PF

COST - £15 per session or 5 for £60 when bought at once
(This event is free for first timers)

Spaces limited strictly to 20.
