What we’re about
What's this? A friendly, welcoming, supportive, inclusive group of herbivores, vegans, vegetarians, WFPB eaters, and veg-friendly KC locals? Oh my!
We have monthly restaurant get-togethers, periodic vegan potlucks, boardgames & nibbles events, occasional coffee shop brunches or ice cream socials, and occasionally even some other events... it's a great way to explore new foods, build community, learn from others, and make new friends.
Hanging out with us is very un-intimidating! Everyone is super-friendly and there are always new people to meet!
Our events are very laid back and relaxed with minimal structure so that you have the chance to just visit and talk to other members while enjoying great food.
You can also follow our Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/Veg-KC/
And we have a new Discord Server if you'd like to join for more ways to communicate and join the community. https://discord.gg/mcewkQv7

VegKC - Blue Nile Café Restaurant Meetup
Blue Nile Café, 20 East 5th Street, Kansas City, MO, USVegKC December Restaurant Meetup!
VENUE
Blue Nile Café - Located in the City Market (aka River Market)
ABOUT THE VENUE
They offer a flavorful variety of scratch-made Ethiopian dishes, and more than half of the menu is vegan-friendly!
Highlights include:
- Veggie Sampler Platter for Two – a generous spread of all vegan mains served on a large piece of injera
- Half Platter for One – choose any 4 vegan dishes
More than half of the menu is vegan friendly, including a large platter for two that offers all the veg friendly main dishes at once served on a huge piece of injera, and a half platter for one including your choice of 4 of their veg friendly dishes.
Ethiopian cuisine is traditionally eaten without utensils—you’ll scoop up the dishes using pieces of injera, a spongy, slightly tangy flatbread made from teff grain (note: their injera is not gluten-free).
Expect a mix of vibrant flavors and textures: lentils with berbere spice, sautéed greens, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and seasonal soups like Duba Shorba (onion, squash, yellow lentils). Though the buffet is no longer offered, the samplers are a great alternative.
Menu Examples
- Gomen - Fresh collard greens with onion, ginger, and garlic.
- Misir Watt - A red lentil stew with sautéed onions, berbere, ginger, garlic, and cardamom.
- Atikeltt - Cabbage, potatoes, and carrots, with yellow onion, ginger, garlic, and turmeric.
- Dinich Watt - Potatoes, tomatoes with garlic, and berbere sauce
