VegKC's January Potluck - New Year's Around the World!

Details

On the 4th Saturday of the Month, VegKC is having a Potluck at the Dragon's Cozy Cave...

Please read the full event details before coming!

Bring a tasty vegan dish near 6:00pm. If you have a recipe that you want to try, know how to make, or if you feel inclined to lighten things up a bit with a good salad, dessert, or some other dish - feel free.

This month we're going with a New Year's Around the World Theme. Feel free to bring a popular New Year's dish - like dumplings from China, toshikoshi soba noodles from Japan, tamales, pozole, marzipan, lentils, fresh baked bread, sauerkraut and potatoes, shortbread, or black eyed peas and collared greens from a little closer. Or whatever interesting dish speaks to you, or bring something entirely different.

We're going to have an awesome vegan potluck buffet with new members and regulars alike.

For privacy the venue address isn't listed publicly, please email one of the hosts via Meetup before the event, for the address / directions.

*** Covid / Flu / Colds *** We request that if you are sick, or have had close proximity exposure to someone who is sick before an event, please be considerate of others' health and cancel your RSVP and wait for our next event.

We may follow dinner up with a movie, board games, or video games, depending on how many people show up and feel so inclined... there will definitely be good conversation.

WHAT DO I BRING?

  1. Yourself (of course). Family and friends are welcome, too. The event will be Kid-friendly (Generally most VegKC events are an Alcohol-free environment so everyone is welcome).
  2. Vegan food dish(es) with serving utensils:
Bring a tasty main dish, side dish, or dessert, and bring the utensils needed to serve it.
Everything must be vegan (no dairy, no eggs, no honey, no animal products of any kind).
Any dish should be big enough to feed about 8 people, and you must bring one dish for every 1-2 guests (including yourself). We have a handful of raw and gluten-free members, so if you feel comfortable with those types of recipes and would enjoy bringing them, feel free to do so. If you think you've got a spectacular dish and you want everyone to have some, be ready to feed everyone who RSVP'd. If you need ideas, there are a number of vegan recipe sites online - such as VegWeb.com
  3. We have enough dishes and utensils for a moderate sized group.
Optionally - bring some easily packed reusable travel tableware if you have it - plate, bowl, utensils, cup and or mug for teas / drinks.
We will have a dishwasher open where our dishes can be rinsed and placed. There will be an electric kettle for teas / hot drinks.
  4. List of ingredients or a recipe: Helpful for those with food allergies, and curious chefs. Alternatively post a link in the comments below, to save on paper and keep things simple.

WHERE IS IT AND HOW DO I GET THERE?
The potluck is at "Dragon's Cozy Cave" and we have room for a good sized party. There is limited table seating, assorted couches and chairs, benches, cushions, and plenty of floor space to sit around casually and hang out.

It is located near I-29 and Barry Road about 20 minutes North of downtown / the River Market, please email the organizers for directions before the event (Click on an event host, click "Chat with [name]").

This event is hosted at a private residence, so please be respectful of the space so that we may continue to host future events here! Relax, enjoy the company, stick to common areas and be gentle on the space - keep your shoes off the couch, that kind of thing. It is a split level with stairs and no front railing - it is unfortunately not wheel chair friendly. There is a deck, but it is in rough shape, so if the weather is conducive, use at your own risk. The house is in reasonable shape, but IS currently undergoing renovations.

The parking is in a residential area on the street, please be mindful of leaving driveways, roadways, and fire hydrants clear (depending on how busy it is, you may have to walk a short ways - the easiest most open parking is probably half a block up on the next street out without any driveways on one side).

This space is home to a clowder of kitties, so please be mindful coming in and closing the door to keep our furry friends safe. We do have hardwood floors which helps a lot, but also something to be aware of if you have cat allergies. (Give us a heads up for allergies and we will try to make sure and vacuum extra well beforehand - time allowing.)

If you RSVP yes, please commit to showing up so everyone can better plan and prepare.

Please - Update your RSVP if anything changes so everyone can plan accordingly for the size of the group!!! While you're at it, please specify to the group what dish you plan on bringing!

COVID-19 safety measures
