VegKC Restaurant Meetup - Blue Nile Café [Confirmation Pending!]
Details
Please commit to showing up BEFORE you RSVP.
Blue Nile is located in the City Market (aka River Market) area and offers an interesting variety.
More than half of the menu is vegan friendly, including a large platter for two that offers all the main dish choices at once, and a half platter for one including several dishes.
Typical of Ethiopian food, there are no forks or spoons; instead, you scoop up the assorted dishes (which are vaguely similar to Indian food, nicely seasoned but a bit milder in flavor, for those of you who've never had Ethiopian cuisine), using a spongy and slightly pungent injera bread made from teff grain (served here it is not gluten free, although injera can be.)
There is an assortment of interesting flavors and ingredients including slightly spicy lentils with Barbere and vegetables from potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and collard greens, to green beans as well as others.
Seasonally, they will have a nice onion, squash, and yellow lentil soup available. You can't go wrong here.
Blue Nile's website (http://www.bluenilekc.com/) includes a menu.
Available on the menu they also have some sambusa pastries (similar to samosas but they fill them with lentils instead). As well as a pretty good mango juice.
They have stopped doing their buffet post pandemic. But, they do have a sampler platter for 1 with about 4 dishes included, or the full sampler platter for 2 with all of their main dishes which makes for a fun and social dining experience served on a huge piece of injera bread.
Please - Update your RSVP if anything changes so restaurants will continue to kindly accommodate our group!!!
