What we’re about
What's this? A friendly, welcoming, supportive, inclusive group of herbivores, vegans, vegetarians, WFPB eaters, and veg-friendly KC locals? Oh my!
We have Monthly restaurant get-togethers, occasional vegan potlucks and other events... it's a great way to explore new foods, learn from others and make new friends.
Hanging out with us is very un-intimidating! Everyone is super-friendly and there are always new people to meet!
Our events are very laid back and relaxed with minimal structure so that you have the chance to just visit and talk to other members while enjoying great food.
You can also follow our Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/Veg-KC/
And we have a new Discord Server if you'd like to join for more ways to communicate and join the community. https://discord.gg/mcewkQv7

Bamboo Penny's
An upper scale Thai restaurant in Leawood, KS with plenty of delicious vegan options.
"This is where "mild, medium, or hot" isn't a question of preference, but a test of one's courage. And where the colors green, yellow, and red all mean go for it."
Thai food often has fish sauce, shrimp paste, egg, or oyster sauce, so be sure to double check with your waiter when ordering Thai - fortunately Bamboo Penny's has generally been pretty knowledgeable about what dishes can be made vegan.
They serve a tasty variety of Thai dishes including:
- Veggie Sampler Combo
- Tom Yum soup
- Thai eggplant salad
- Five different stir-fry's including their Cashew stir-fry with tofu
- Panang Curry (Possibly other curries.)
- Phad See Ew
- Chive Cakes
- Penny's Lettuce Wraps
- Some other dishes can be adapted.
See more from their menu here: https://bamboopennys.com/
Note that the restaurant automatically charges an 18% gratuity for groups of 8 or more.
Please - Update your RSVP if anything changes so restaurants will continue to kindly accommodate our group!!!

Please commit to showing up BEFORE you RSVP.
Waldo Pizza, All You Care To Eat Vegan Pizza Buffet!
We're planning on meeting at Waldo Pizza this month. We will be doing a vegan all you care to eat pizza and salad buffet.
“It's delicious!” =)
They have a dedicated vegan menu that you can request, which includes vegan desert, and cheesy bread sticks among other things.
They request that we try to leave tables towards one side open, so as not to saturate their entire back room if we have a smaller number of people show up.
If you RSVP'd, but aren't doing the buffet for some reason (IE ordering gluten free,) please let us or the restaurant know.
The tap room will handle a max of 75 sitting...
**** PRICING IS APPROXIMATE ****
(Updated 2024, Pizza Buffet and Salad Buffet including soda, single flat price, before tax.)
Adult Buffet Price: $18.00
Kids under 12Y: $9.00*Other items, like beer or bread sticks and desserts, are extra of course.
(View their online vegan menu for more details.)Located in Kansas City near 75th and Wornall Waldo Pizza is a very popular local spot. They offer an interesting variety of veggie toppings!
Waldo pizza has always had soy cheese available on their menu--unfortunately, it has casein and isn't vegan. To get the veg stuff be sure to ask for the "vegan mozzarella" (which is made by VioLife.) They also now serve Daiya cheeze. (Follow Your Heart isn't currently available.)
While imitation meats may not be a great main stay for a healthy diet, they can bring back a favorite dish or add something a little different. Waldo has an assortment of veggie "meats" available!
The traditional hand-tossed and thin crusts are vegan, the regular and spicy marinaras as well as the BBQ, Romesco, Buffalo Sauces, and apparently the Pesto are all vegan.
At the salad bar, the Italian dressing is vegan. They also have a vegan gluten-free crust (for a little extra - special order / not part of the buffet, and it is slightly smaller than their usual pizza size, but delicious.)
Here is a sampling of approximately the pizzas that they will serve - more people = more pizzas = more variety to try!
- Traditional, spicy marinara with artichoke and sun dried tomato.
- Traditional, barbecue with pineapple, veggie sausage, and roasted garlic.
- Thin, marinara, roasted garlic, tomato, and basil (of course).
- Traditional, Romesco, Mushroom, Red Onion, Pine Nuts.
