Picnic & The Smell of Money Documentary (DC Environmental Film Festival)

Weather permitting, let's gather at 6pm in the Navy Memorial Plaza, right in front of the Naval Heritage Center at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004, for a picnic before the 7pm screening of The Smell of Money documentary, which is being shown as part of the DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF) at the Naval Heritage Center.

You can bring your own beverages and vegan food or pick up something from nearby HipCityVeg (a six minute walk away), Teasim (a one minute walk away) or another restaurant of your choice. We should be able to find some seating on steps around the plaza. If the weather is bad, we will scratch the picnic part of this Meetup.

You must purchase a ticket for the film in advance on the DCEFF website here. Don't hesitate because tickets can sell out. Seating is general admission.

The film will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Shawn Bannon (Director) and Jamie Berger (Writer/Producer).

When a corporate hog farm moves in––uninvited––on land her grandfather had purchased after claiming his freedom from slavery, Elsie Herring decides to fight back. After decades of defeat, Elsie, her neighbors, and a gutsy small-town lawyer take the world’s largest pork company to court. The residents risk everything for their rights to clean air, pure water, and a life free from the stench of shit.

A story about the power of love for one’s family and community to triumph over colossal forces of injustice, The Smell of Money calls upon viewers to see the people behind what's on our plates––and to join the fight for a better future for us all.
