Background:
Plastic pollution is devastating wildlife, contributing to disease, and contaminating our water, land, and air.
My journey began with veganism for the animals, but witnessing the impact of plastic on wildlife pushed me further. Images of mother birds feeding plastic to their young, and fish suffering from plastic ingestion, are heartbreaking. The environmental damage from fossil fuel extraction and plastic production is alarming, and many recycling efforts fail, with waste often ending up in impoverished communities. Additionally, plastic acts as a hormone disruptor, leaching into our food and beverages, and microplastics are infiltrating ecosystems, threatening our food supply.
Over the past two years, I've transformed my habits, eliminating most single-use plastics and embracing a lower-waste lifestyle. I enjoy this new lifestyle and feel fulfilled by it.
