What we're about

Vegas Programmers (Formally known as PHP Vegas) is an open and free community of computer scientists who love to develop software. Our meetup is open everyone; both new and experienced programmers are all welcome. Our meetups are on the 3rd Saturday of the month in Downtown Las Vegas hosted by Tech Alley.

We have two monthly meetups on that day.

1pm - DEMO TIME! A meetup dedicated to demoing pet projects and start ups.
2pm - One or two speakers cover technical topics involving the world of software development. Examples are PHP, JavaScript, Web Development, Open Source Software, and other programming languages.

Meetups are around an hour and a half. We will have one 45 minute presentation and then open the floor for demos/questions/and helping others.

Our group is dedicated to teaching, learning, and growing the local Software Developer & VegasTech community.

Many developers are experts in one segment or another and love when people can share valuable technologies with our group. We also love new people looking to get into programming! This group will be an opportunity for all of us to teach what we know and learn more about what interests us. If you are looking to teach, learn, network, or just mingle; please join the group and participate on our adventure together.

We thank our sponsors for providing food, beverages, swag, license keys, meetup costs, and more.

***If you are interested in sponsoring our group, contact me at Josh@RemoteDevForce.com***

Our goal:
• Create a community where software programmers can grow together.
• Expand the usage of PHP and other programming languages in Southern Nevada.
• Help software developers through mentoring and training.
• Create events that promote the 3 items above.

We maintain a harassment free zone. (see policy)

IMPORTANT: Recruiters and companies who need to hire: This is a user group where developers come to socialize and learn, NOT a head hunting resource. If you are not a developer or do not desire to learn more about PHP, joining this group may NOT be for you. However, we do welcome meeting sponsors for an opportunity to reach out to members.

MergePHP: Docker is Dead, Long Live Containers by Chris Tankersley

Link visible for attendees

Since Docker burst onto the scene, programmers have seen a radical shift in almost every ecosystem. From setting up environments to tooling to deployment, containers now influence many applications. The good news is that the idea of containers has taken hold, and we are no longer beholden to a technological monopoly. Let's look at the container ecosystem outside Docker and what a genuinely open, containerized future holds.
Presented by Chris Tankersly
Chris Tankersley is a husband, father, author, speaker, PHP developer, podcast host, and probably lots of other things he's forgetting to mention. He works for Vonage as a Senior Developer Relations Advocate, helping developers use and integrate Vonage's communication platform into their applications and third party services. Chris has worked with many different frameworks and languages throughout his fifteen years of programming, but spends most of his day working in PHP and TypeScript. He is the author of "Docker for Developers," and helps developers integrate containers into their workflows.
