WHY THIS UNUSUAL EVENT IS BEING POSTED IN THIS MEETUP GROUP: My close college friend Alan (a lawyer and political fundraiser) is starting a nonprofit school for special needs children. He is having a gala party as a fundraiser for the new nonprofit school. The party will be Thursday, March 27th, starting at 6:00pm.

Regular tickets to this event are $175. Alan is giving a limited number of tickets to members of our vegan meetup for free.

There will be a buffet with a good amount of vegan food. (Though a majority of the food will be non-vegan.) And vegan dishes will be marked! There will also be a large open bar with unlimited drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

I purchased a $175 ticket to this event, in support of my friend and his charity. But your ticket will be free.

A few of us are poker players. There is going to be a poker tournament at the party, with prizes. My $175 ticket got upgraded to include the poker tournament. Some celebrities will be in attendance. Dara Lynn Sclar devoted her career to nurturing the minds and spirits of children. As an early childhood teacher, she seamlessly blended her love for art with her passion for education, working with both special needs and typical students. Beyond her professional life, she was a dedicated mother to four children, one of whom, Sydney, was on the autism spectrum and had intellectual disabilities.

Together with her husband, Alan, Dara faced the daunting challenge of finding an inclusive and supportive learning environment where their daughter could thrive. They encountered obstacles such as long waiting lists for specialized programs and prohibitive travel times to suitable schools. Yet, with persistence, determination, and true grit, they eventually secured the right placement for Sydney. Sydney is now thriving as an adult, attending a college program and working towards a career in the culinary arts.

This journey illuminated a critical gap in the educational landscape and inspired Dara and Alan to envision a school that could cater to children like their daughter—a place where every child could receive the resources and care necessary to flourish. Tragically, in 2015, Dara succumbed to an aggressive form of cancer, leaving behind a vision for a better educational future.

In her honor, the Dara Lynn Foundation was established, carrying forward Dara's legacy of compassion and excellence. The foundation is dedicated to providing young children with the best resources and practices, ensuring that they can become the best version of themselves, regardless of their unique challenges. Her unwavering spirit and dedication continue to inspire those striving to create a brighter future for all children.

The Dara Lynn Foundation is aiming to open our first school campus in the Fall of 2025!
