Vegan Tour of Downtown Brooklyn Plus Brooklyn Heights Promenade!
Details
NOTE: This event filled up. Please RSVP for the waiting list. We hope to expand the event.
Join us for a limited-attendance vegan tour of Downtown Brooklyn plus a visit to the spectacular Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
OPTIONAL EARLY ARRIVAL: If you arrive early at 6:30pm, you can join us at the legendary Sahadi's for some Middle Eastern grocery and food shopping (as well as at the delectable Damascus Pita, they have amazing prepared food in addition to pita bread).
Sahadi's ( https://sahadis.com ) is a New York icon. David has been shopping there for 40 years (and it was an icon even then). It moved to its current location in Brooklyn in 1948, but was actually founded in 1895 in Manhattan's "Little Syria".
Here is a 2023 New York Times article on the store: "The Brooklyn Grocery Store That Feeds Nostalgia". The sub-head is: "Sahadi’s, on Atlantic Avenue, has specialized in Middle Eastern comfort food for the past 75 years. Now, with a second location and a lively cafe, the family-run market is courting a new following." There are two options for meeting:
1. The "pre-meetup" will be at 6:30pm at Sahadi's (at 187 Atlantic Avenue, bet. Court St. & Clinton St.). And, just a few doors down is Damascus Bread & Pastry Shop (aka Damascus Pita) ( https://damascus-bread-pastry-shop.wa-cafe.com ) at 195 Atlantic Avenue -- which has amazing prepared food (many items are vegan) in addition to bread.
2. The "actual" meetup begins at 7:00pm at Next Stop Vegan. If you can't make it to the pre-meetup at 6:30pm, just arrive for the regular meetup at 7:00pm. We will be there for about an hour as we order our food. They don't have a website. Description: "Next Stop Vegan is a Dominican-Vegan-Burger joint located in Brooklyn, NY. Known for its flavorful and creative vegan options, the menu offers a variety of dishes like El Plato Clasico gluten-free, mushroom burgers, and empanadas with unique fillings such as lentils and potatoes. The customer reviews rave about the delicious food, friendly service, and cozy ambiance. Popular dishes include the crispy mushroom sandwich, yaroa empanada, and the classic plate with mushrooms, rice, plantains, and salad. The restaurant is commended for its Latin-packed mixed flavors, quick service, and generous portion sizes."
After Next Stop Vegan, our food tour will include stops at three restaurants, all with vegan options. These will be take-out stops, and we will be taking our food to eat at the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, as we sit on benches and gaze out on to the East River and the Lower Manhattan skyline. (The Promenade has got a ton of benches, and they all face the river and the skyline.)
1. Curry Heights (Indian), 151 Remsen Street
https://curryheights.com
2. Hanco's (Vietnamese), 147 Montague Street
https://www.hancos.com
3. Dellarocco's Brick Oven Pizza (Italian), 214 Hicks Street
This restaurant has a vegan cheese option (NUMU).

We will take our food to the famous Brooklyn Heights Promenade (just a block away from our last stop, Dellarocco's). With amazing East River and Lower Manhattan skyline views, and tons of benches lining the Promenade and directly facing the river and the skyline, this is a breathtaking location to eat our take-out dinner and hang out.
We are an extremely friendly and welcoming group. To our new members: Come to the meetup and make new friends! We are delighted to meet you, and to welcome you to the group.
Where To Meet: At 7:00pm we will meet in Next Stop Vegan, at 88 Livingston St, Brooklyn, NY 11201. (For the pre-meetup at 6:30pm, go to Sahadi's at 187 Atlantic Avenue.)
Train Directions: N, R, W train stop at Court Street, or the 2, 3, 4, 5 train stop at Borough Hall, or the F and G trains to Bergen Street.
A Citibike station is one street block away on Schermerhorn St.
Looking forward to joining you for this delectable food tour, dinner, and visit to the spectacular Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
