What we’re about
The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club is composed of people who like to run on dirt trails. Though based in northern Virginia, most club members live within the metropolitan DC area, with several others scattered in many other states. The club members are of varying running abilities and ages. Many run ultramarathons, but some don't run at all. The VHTRC holds regular Sunday runs in and around the Rock Creek Park trails in Washington, DC, as well as at Great Falls National Park in Virginia, and also holds runs of varying distances elsewhere in DC, Maryland and Virginia. (The Wednesday night runs at Great Falls are held in partnership with the DC Capital Striders running group.) Details on regularly scheduled training runs will be posted here, as well as on the VHTRC site:Â https://new.vhtrc.org
We hope to see you at a run soon ... Happy Trails!

LOCATION:
• Daylight Savings Time (mid-March to last week of Oct)
Far end of the first GF parking lot area after the Visitor Center
Great Falls lot
• non-DST (the dark runs -- last week of Oct til week before Thanksgiving - hiatus - then back mid Feb to mid March) Difficult Run parking lot (on the bend of RT-193 Georgetown Pike)
Difficult Run lot- [Since the park closes at dark, we change our meeting location to the Difficult Run parking lot (on RT-193 Georgetown Pike) the last Wednesday of October. After a few more runs from there, we end the official CY season right before Thanksgiving.]
We'll do some quick introductions, answer any questions, talk about where everyone wants to run and then take a group photo (light or lighting permitting) before heading off!
Numerous options for out and backs, loops and variations are in Great Falls Park and Difficult Run Trail. Sometimes the entire group does the same route, other times their may be 2 or 3 different group routes to choose from.
Open to all paces and experience levels, complete a distance that is good for you. Not everyone runs the same distance in the group but typically they run from 3-7 miles (~1 hour) depending on the time of season and who shows up that evening.
**DISCLAIMER** This run is open to all runners, however we hope that you have some experience with trail running. There are times that you may be running by yourself and we can't always guarantee that you'll have another runner near you. We will briefly explain the course and try to pair you up with another experienced runner before we start.
