Victor Hiking Trails Meetup

We will walk the next phase of the GLT Mud Creek Preserve trail system and flag so new homeowners will have an idea where the trail will be. This trail will be part of the higher ground backbone connecting Sunray Crest to the Auburn Trail. We will not be clearing and/or mowing during this iteration, however, volunteers with loppers, etc. could be helpful in navigating. A stop at Busy Beans after could be in order.

Please note the change to afternoon hours! We are close to completing the last bout of cutting phragmites around the pond for 2026. Because of our work using hand tools and battery operated hedgeclippers we have been able to do the circumference of the pond 3 times. We limit the time spent for each party to keep it a relatively light chore and recently have been meeting at Busy Bean for social time after we are done. We have been very encouraged by our success in bringing back so many native plants, shrubs, and trees that are making headway in competing and succeeding in taking back their territory around the pond.
Please wear sturdy footwear, preferably waterproof. Rubber boots have been working well for most of us. Also, water to drink, insect repellant (very few mosquitoes, but concern for ticks is sensible). Bring work gloves and your favorite loppers, but I will have some tools available.
About the photo: The golden rod and asters are at their peak now, so even if you come just for a visit, check closer to the pond to see the vibrant colors and the pollinators taking advantage of the abundant nectar and pollen. Picture shows the New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae)

We will meet at 8:00 a.m. This is a faster pace, strenuous & hilly ~ 14 mile hike - Full length of the Seneca Trail. Meet behind TJ Max, 20 Square Drive, Victor, NY 14564. We will carpool to the south end of the Seneca Trail and then hike back. Bring water & snacks for this 4 to 5 hour hike. This will be the last chance to hike the full length in 2026 as parts south of Ganondagan will close for hunting Oct – Dec. After the hike we can enjoy food and comradery. Chauncy Y. 455-1932
