Programmable Money -- CBDCs

Our main topic for this meeting will be Central Bank Digital Currencies because it looks like that's going to be part of our future.

In case you haven't heard, the Bank of Canada is the institution that issues Canadian dollars. Their website says they are working on "exploring the possibility of issuing a digital form of the Canadian dollar, also known as a central bank digital currency (CBDC)."

Central Bank Digital Currency. That's a currency that only exists on government computers so it can be completely controlled by the government. 100% financial surveillance all the time, and the ability to deduct money from your account at the touch of a button any time for any reason. Or they can have a computer program deduct money from your account automatically. Not just if you owe taxes, but even for what they call "negative interest rates" that are supposed to be an important new tool for the government to manipulate the economy. I mean manage the economy.

They also say they have no plans to implement the currency they are developing and definitely no plans to ever eliminate cash.

You can believe them, they're part of the government.

Oh yeah, and they can make the new Canadian "digital dollar" they are "exploring" into "programmable money." That means computer programs running on the government computers can make spending decisions for you or veto your spending decisions. Instead of a carbon tax, they can just limit how much you can spend each month on things they think will put too much carbon in the air. Or they could limit how much meat you can buy per month because did you know that it would really help the environment if you would be vegan? It would also be possible to cancel people more effectively by blocking all payments to their account.

They're not talking about forcing people to do anything, but getting reluctant people to get vaccinated or whatever is next would be real easy if they can't receive any money from any source unless they comply.

The possibilities are endless and exciting! For the people in charge. For us, the possibilities will be more... limited.

While they're "exploring" their ideas for a Central Bank Digital Currency, we'll be exploring what we can do with alternative currencies instead. This meeting will be a joint meeting with the Victoria Cryptocurrency Group.
