Welcome to Vienna Bowling Meets German Language! 🎳🇦🇹
Do you live in Vienna, want to improve your German, meet new people and occasionally send a bowling ball in completely the wrong direction? Then you’ll fit right in. 😄
I’m from Vienna and a native German speaker, and the idea behind this group is pretty simple: We meet for bowling, have fun and speak German together in a relaxed environment.
If you’re still learning German, no problem at all! I’m happy to serve with German words, expressions and phrases along the way. If you don’t know how to say something in German, just say it in English and we’ll figure out the German version together. And if a conversation gets too complicated, we can always switch to English.
This is not a German class. There are no exercises, no homework and definitely no grammar test before you’re allowed to touch a bowling ball. 😂 The idea is to learn naturally by talking, laughing and spending time together while playing the game.
And regarding the bowling part: I’m a beginner myself! So beginners are especially welcome. You absolutely don’t need to be good at bowling to join. In fact, having several people at a similar level probably makes it even more fun,instead of one semi-professional destroying all of us every week. 😉
More experienced bowlers are absolutely welcome too, of course, as long as your patience can survive watching the rest of us learn.
The main goal is about meeting new people, having a good evening together and improving your German naturally while we improve the bowling together. I don’t expect anything back for the German service, the learning is just a natural, easy byproduct of playing the game and talking a bit while doing it.
Your German doesn’t have to be good.
Your bowling doesn’t have to be good either.
If both are terrible, you may actually be the perfect member. ;)
Internationals, expats, students, newcomers to Vienna and locals who simply like the idea are all welcome.
Let’s bowl, talk, learn some German for the ones who want to improve and see how many pins survive. 🎳🇦🇹
Just a quick note on logistics: This is a community meetup for the purpose of game fun only, NOT a business. Everyone simply pays for their own bowling lane/shoes directly at the venue.
We’ll play for about 1.5 to 2 hours, talk a bit of German, and then wrap up the evening!
