Thank you for joining the Virginia Beach Mahjong group and for your interest in playing Mahjong.

Please note: You are expected to play at least one game during your trial period. To remain an active member, you should play at least four games per year.

We follow the rules and cards of the National Mah Jongg League. Table rules are shared before each game. If unclear, please ask your Host. If you plan to continue, you will need your own card. Cards are available on their website and, after release, on Amazon. We will give advance notice when new cards are issued.

If you are new or just returning, you will be paired with an experienced player—just let the Host know.

As a member, you will find a variety of event styles:
- Social games with pre-play conversation and light chatter
- Focused games with minimal conversation
- A mix of both

Our group is not competitive. Games are friendly, supportive, and fun—anything else is not acceptable. Friendly banter may occur, always in good spirit.

Please be aware people process information differently and may play faster or slower than you’re used to. Be patient, feeling rushed can be as frustrating as waiting. If it becomes unpleasant, wait until the end of the game and discreetly tell the Host. If possible, you may switch tables, or at a future event be seated with players of similar pace.

- Some games may include small-stakes play (nickels, dimes, quarters)
- Some events may include light snacks before play
- Check each event description for details

When attending games in homes, please be respectful. Some hosts have pets. If you are willing to host occasionally, please let us know.
