Theory of G. Carlin: Something is F’ed Up and God Should’ve Been Fired Years Ago
Details
George Carlin once said that if God was running any other operation the way he runs this planet, he’d have been fired a long time ago.
And the room did a short burst laugh and back to intentionally listening to this philosopher.
Because somewhere between the laugh and the silence is the thing Carlin spent his entire life pointing at we all already know something is deeply wrong, and we’re all just too comfortable to say it out loud.
I am not a comedian so this won’t be intentionally funny, but hopefully intentionally intriguing
This will be just a room full of people asking the questions that Carlin spent his career screaming into a microphone dressed up as jokes so the truth could sneak past our defenses.
We’ll dig into:
• Why do we keep playing a game that feels rigged against us and who actually benefits from us believing we can win?
• When did we start confusing owning things with being someone?
• Why are we so good at caring about problems from a distance and so bad at caring about the ones right in front of us?
• Are the words we use protecting us from pain or just protecting us from reality?
• Is laughing at how broken everything is the most honest response or just the easiest one?
The question underneath everything:
Is Carlin’s worldview the most liberating thing you’ll ever hear or does it just give you really eloquent reasons to give up?
