About us
This is a group for anyone interested in hiking or camping in the Virginia area and surrounding states. All skill levels are welcome.
You should join this group if you enjoy the outdoors and like the idea of hiking or camping. Also, even though we're based out of Richmond, don't let it prevent you from signing up if you live elsewhere in Virginia. Trips will be led in all regions of the state and as long as you're willing to travel to a destination we'll be glad to have you join.
If you're new to hiking or camping there are plenty of experienced members to help shorten your learning curve to help avoid some of the more common mistakes we've all likely made at some point in our travels.
There will be a good range of hikes for different skill levels including some nice, easy, introductory trips as well as some more intense up and down hikes. The great part is each hike will have a good summary of what you can expect and you decide what works best for you.

Tubing on the James
Location not specified yetJoin us as we camp and tube at James River State Park. I have been hosting this trip for many years, and it is always a great time. You will need to bring your own tube to float (any pool tube will do) and reserve your own campsite.
I have reserved a primitive site at the Canoe Landing Campground located within the James River State Park. The Canoe landing sites are located right on the river, so we will start our float right from my site and get out at Dixon Landing. We can figure out cars once we are there. We are usually able to make 2 runs on Sat and one on Sunday if you are up to it.
You can reserve your site at the following website. You must set up an account if you do not already have one. As I stated previously, I have reserved my site in Canoe Landing. If you reserve a site, please list your site number in the comments so we can find you, and also, comment if you would like to share your site.

If weather becomes an issue, I will make the call the Thursday before we leave, At that point you should be able to move/cancel your reservation. Please be sure to read the Va State Park Cancellation police when making reservations.
Address:
James River State Park, 104 Green Hill Dr, Gladstone, VA 24553As always, you are responsible for you own safety. Floating and camping are inherently dangerous.

Car Camping at Point Lookout State Park
Location not specified yetI decided to do a campground I've never done before. Please join me and let's discover Point Lookout State Park in Maryland. There seems to be many interesting points for us to discover. The park is situated between the Potomac river and the Chesapeake Bay, "The state park preserves the site of an American Civil War prisoner of war camp and the Point Lookout Light, which was built in 1830." It also is home to 3 water trails which I plan to explore and a fishing pier.
ADDRESS: (Sorry Cant add this to Location for some reason)
Point Lookout State Park
11175 Point Lookout Road
Scotland, MD 20687To reserve your site, you must sign in to https://parkreservations.maryland.gov/
and put in Point Lookout State Park. If you don't have an account with Maryland State Parks, you must create one in order to make reservations.I made my reservations in the Hoffman Loop, Site 137.
Everyone is responsible for their own reservation, equipment, and food. As we get closer to the event, we can plan a hike or activity if anyone wants one. I just wanted to get this on the calendar, while there are still plenty of sites available. If you reserve a site and would like to share, please post in the comments.
