Carson Beach - Doubles Volleyball Clinic - Intermediate - Co-ed
Hosted by Boston Volleyball Group
Details
Welcome to the 10th season of Carson Beach volleyball clinics!
LEVEL - Weekly, recurring clinic for intermediates - currently playing volleyball, knows & follows basic rules, building consistency in pass/set/hit skills, and has good fitness.
Do you want to improve your beach doubles game? Transition your indoor skills to the beach? Learn beach specific offense, defense, and the often arbitrary beach rules? Then join us every Tue!
6 to 7 – Learn beach strategies and improve skills through drills and video review.
7 to 8 – Play beach/sand doubles on a men's and a women's height net.
BRING a phone/device/tripod to record yourself at practice, water, sunglasses, bug spray and a beach chair.
Please bring a Bluetooth speaker if you have one.
We use Spaulding / Mikasa King of the Beach ball (classic ball) and Wilson AVP ball, (popular at Carson and local tournaments). Please bring extra of these balls if you have them.
BE ON TIME Warm ups start at 6 and clinic at 6:15. If you at not on the beach by 6, please skip the clinic portion and join us after for open play.
ATTENDEES and RSVPs We are trying to build a group of people who attend regularly. The coaching is organized to build on previous weeks, so it is preferable to have some regular players each week. When confirming RSVPs, I will give preference to participants who have attended previously. You can register 2 weeks in advance.
COST Free. There is currently no need for Meetup donations. However, if you want to contribute, visit this site: https://www.meetup.com/volleyball-122/#pledge
VIDEO REVIEW We will record a drill and/or games at every practice. After practice, we can discuss your goals, and how your skills and tactics are helping you to achieve them.
CANCEL EARLY: If you cannot attend, please cancel 48 hours in advance as I need time to make sure we have have 2 well matched nets of players. If you cancel within this window more than once, you will be less likely to get invited in the future.
WEATHER CANCELLATION I never cancel for weather. It is my experience that there is always at least an hour and a half of good playing between 6 and dark regardless of weather report or how hard it is raining at 5pm. See you on the sand!
HELP WITH THE CLINICS - I am always looking for help with clinics. If you want to help organize, demonstrate, review video, or anything else, please let me know!
HOW TO FIND US: Find the nets - blue & yellow. Find me - 55yo 6 ft tall skinny guy with a gray Vail hat. There are 2 free parking lots (one on each side of beach house). Meet us near the southern lot on right side of brick bath house as you look at ocean. Accessible via T red line JFK stop.
PARKING: I get there 60 minutes early and wait until a spot comes available. Some people park on Columbia Road and walk across to Carson. Some people park at Boston Teachers Union (not allowed but to my knowledge they don't ticket or tow).
FIRST TIME? Traffic is terrible and getting worse. Parking is the same. Add in a lot of extra time to make sure you arrive on time. Carpool or MBTA train or bus recommended.
