Volleyball @ Sydney Park, ALL LEVELS welcome including beginners
Details
IMPORTANT POLICY UPDATES/CHANGES INCLUDED. PLEASE READ!
What to expect:
- Play volleyball in a relaxed, outdoor, social environment.
- Location map: https://www.meetup.com/volleyball-at-sydney-park/photos/33390251/511678875/
Format:
We aim to play as follows:
- First hour: Setup the net, warm up, volleyball drills (exercises).
- Second hour: Mixed social volleyball.
Depending on the number of players, we'll form 2, 3 or 4 teams & start playing. If we notice a team being much stronger, we will try to swap players to try balance the teams. - Third hour: We will turn up the heat and allow everyone to showcase their skills. We'll form new teams in order to have the more experienced players on one net/court and the less experienced players on another net/court. At the end, we will pack up the equipment.
Notes:
- When you arrive, you must see the organiser to check-in, get your name marked off and be advised of your team & court.
If you don't check-in, you will be marked as No-Show. - If you arrive late (more than 30 min), you may not get to play (your spot might be given away to another player, e.g. someone on the waitlist).
In order to facilitate running this event, players will be graded:
- Grade 10: First time players and beginners.
- Grade 20: You know the basic rules of the game and are reasonably consistent (~60% of the time) with your serving, receiving, passing, setting and attacking.
- Grade 30: You know the rules of the game with regards to playing positions, setting, net fouls, foot fouls, etc., and you can serve, receive, set and attack successfully at least 80% of the time.
Donation (to helps us with expenses) CASH ONLY:
- Casual visitor (1st timer or return player): $2
- Member (optional): $20 for 6 months
Instead of $2 per visit, a $20 donation will cover you for 6 months. - No Spot (e.g. No RSVP or on Waitlist): +$2*#
*e.g. $4 for casual visitors, $2 for members
#If someone on the "Going" list is running more than 30min late, you might be given their spot, but if the event is full, you may not be allowed to play.
Please be on time (as per event details or main page map/photo) and don't expect to see a volleyball net already set-up because we actually set-up once we have enough people. Volleyball is a team sport and as such, we need a team effort to carry the equipment from the car/carpark to the "spot" and then set-up. After the game, we need a team effort to pack up the equipment and to carry it back to the car. If you are not prepared to help, please do not join us. We only want team players, not selfish people.
IMPORTANT POLICY CHANGES
Waitlists: If your name is on the Waitlist, you do NOT have a spot. A spot may become available to you up until 10am on the morning of the event. We usually end up with 28 players on 2 nets. Waitlists are now discretionary and not in order of response. This is to assist running the event as smoothly as possible for the organiser and the players & also to reward loyalty (members and regular players). Note for regulars, please RSVP before Sat 9am otherwise you may miss out on a spot.
No-shows: No shows are disrespectful towards the organiser and the other players (especially those on the waitlist) and will now be given 2 chances/warnings and banned on their 3rd "no-show".
To avoid a no-show, make sure you update your RSVP before 9am of the morning of the meetup (i.e. Sunday morning 9am).
This also applies to those on the Waitlist. If you are on the waitlist, there is a chance you will be moved to the "Going" list, so if you will no longer attend, ensure your change your RSVP to "Not going" by 9am.
What to bring:
A smile and your good attitude. Also bring a water bottle. There are many areas nearby you can fill up. There is also a kiosk where you can buy food and drinks; I think they usually stay open until ~4pm.
Lost items: If we find items (e.g. sun glasses, shoes, shirts, water bottles, etc.). when we pack up, we will hold on to them for 2-3 weeks and then just dispose of them. If you lose something, please message us asap.
Questions: If you have any questions, please ask.
Note that if your question has been addressed in this description and you simply have not bothered to read it, you may not get a response. And of course you won't know that if you haven't read this, but then who's fault is that?
If this all makes sense and you agree, come join us for some good wholesome fun. See you at the park!
