About us
WABISABI is an online community for everyone who is learning Japanese and wants to improve their speaking skills without fear of making mistakes (the “wabi-sabi mindset”), which means enjoying the process of imperfection 🍃
Regardless of Japanese level, age, country, or native language, anyone is welcome to join :)
However, it is recommended that you have completed A1 or JLPT N5 level, meaning you are able to ask and answer simple questions about topics such as favorite foods, daily life, hobbies, and travel. This will help you participate in conversations more comfortably. If you are unsure about your level, feel free to join and see how it feels.
At WABISABI, you can meet people from different cultures who share the same interest: learning Japanese through interactive and fun conversation.
⭐️What we do in a meetup
Check-in (10 min)
Three conversation rounds in small groups of 3–4 people (45 min)
Check-out (5 min)
⭐️Requirement
Please turn on your camera so we can create a comfortable and safe space for everyone. If you keep your camera off, we may have to decline your participation. Thank you for your understanding.
🫂Your host
These events are hosted by Nana. Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, she is now living in Spain. As a Japanese teacher, and based on her own language-learning experiences, she believes that learning a language works best in real conversational situations.
She speaks English (C1) and Spanish (B1). she also worked as a tour guide in Osaka, so she knows many great places to visit, eat, and experience Japanese culture.
For those who do not have the opportunity to speak Japanese in their daily life, this is a great chance to practice in a friendly environment.
💰Donation
Participation is free. However, if you enjoy the experience and feel inspired to support this activity, I would be very grateful for any donation you’d like to make.
You can donate any amount above €5 via revlout or paypal. Your contributions help cover website maintenance, Zoom costs, Meetup fees, and sometimes a cup of tea when I take a moment to relax at a café 🍵
