About us
# Wake Up KC is a small home-based community of mindfulness practice inspired by Zen Master and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh.
We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness, and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society.
Our practice is simple. We return to the breath, come home to the body, and learn to live more deeply in the present moment.
Together we may practice sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful breathing, deep listening, compassionate communication, tea, total relaxation, and simple reflections.
Our practice is guided by the Five Mindfulness Trainings, ethical guidelines that offer concrete ways to cultivate love, compassion, non-discrimination, responsibility, and care for the Earth.
Wake Up is inspired by Buddhist wisdom and practice, but it is not based on beliefs or ideology. People of all spiritual, religious, secular, and cultural backgrounds are warmly welcome. You do not need prior meditation experience, special beliefs, or anything to prove. Come as you are.
Wake Up KC is still in its early steps. We are beginning as a small home-based gathering in Belton, and our hope is that this community will grow through the presence, wisdom, practice, and care of everyone who joins.
As the community grows, we hope to offer other ways of practicing together, such as walking meditation in nature, mindful hikes, camping, community service, shared meals, family-friendly gatherings, days of mindfulness, music, and creative practice.
Wake Up KC is a community of practice, not a marketplace or therapy group. We gather as spiritual friends and fellow practitioners to nourish one another through mindfulness, deep listening, compassion, and community.
Because we gather in a home, we are beginning small and with care. The exact address in Belton is shared after you RSVP for a gathering.
A note about the space: we do have cats and a dog in the home. We want everyone to feel comfortable, so if you have allergies, sensitivities, or concerns around animals, please feel free to message us before attending.
Wake Up KC is not something we simply attend. Like a community garden, it grows through the care, presence, and practice of everyone who helps tend it.
If you are longing to practice with others, we would love to welcome you.
