What we're about

Walk Cambridge is an active walking club and social group, aimed at working age people living in Cambridge and the surrounding area. The group offers a varied programme of events throughout the year. From our weekly walks and monthly pub meets to weekends-away further afield and our annual awards dinner, there's something for everyone. So if you enjoy walking and would like to meet a friendly bunch of like-minded people, why not give us a try?

Note that we're part of the Ramblers Association, which means that everyone is welcome to attend a few events to see if they like it, then those who wish to continue are asked to join the Ramblers, a small annual subscription for membership of Britain's national walking charity. For more information please visit http://www.walkcambridge.org/join.html .

Coton/Madingley circular, 5.5miles, Easy

Madingley Road Park and Ride

Meet at Madingley Road Park and Ride at 9.30am for a 5.5 mile walk. It is circular so we will finish at the same place at 12noon. There are toilets here.

You can get to the start point by bus (every 15 mins from the centre), car (free parking), bicycle or walking. Please arrive on time.

This is a shorter, easier walk and will be at a relaxed pace. Sights along the way include the village of Coton, Cambridge American cemetery, and a windmill.

The majority of paths are surfaced, however one section is likely to be muddy so walking boots are recommended. Wear suitable clothing for the weather on the day.

Near the end we will pass an excellent cafe called Dulcedo where there will be an optional coffee stop.

Please do not bring dogs on this walk.

Do not attend if you are unwell with any potential Covid19 symptoms. 2 metre social distancing must be maintained!

*** CANCELLATIONS ***

Please only put your name down if you are fully committed to attending. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you do have to cancel, please do so as early as possible so that someone can take your place.

Four Counties and a 16th century Manor House: 11 miles (Circular (Moderate)
Saturday 29th January
Meet at Cambridge station at 8:45am for 9:00 train or 10:06am at
Stamford Rail Station, Stamford Lincolnshire PE9 2JP

Get an Off Peak Return to Stamford

Its time to bag four counties, a hill, an impressive manor house, and more. Starting off from historic Stamford, Lincolnshire, we'll follow a river briefly into England's smallest county Rutland and then up a hill to Derbyshire. With views of the local area on at Eaton on the Hill, we head for Cambridgeshire and the grounds of the impressive 16th century English country house of Burghley House. After following the route of a Roman road across its grounds, we'll head for the village of Barnack. At Barnack, we'll walk around its ancient quarries, used since Roman times and a Anglo-Saxon church. Finally its to the River Welland and back to Stamford, a town full of 17th and 18th-century stone buildings, older timber-framed buildings and five medieval parish churches.
