The Legendary Bluebells of Ashridge. Joint walk with Chiltern Young Walkers. Distance: 11.6 miles (4.8 miles morning; 6.8 miles afternoon). Grade: Leisurely Two circular bluebell walks in one day from the same start point. Please feel free to join at any part of the day including a pre-walk breakfast at the Brownlow Café by the monument from 10:00a.m. (the cafe is on the left-hand side of the green as you approach from the car park). Walks start point is the Bridgewater Monument on the Ashridge Estate near Tring; parking is best in the main Ashridge Estate car park (sat nav HP4 1LU, grid ref SP970131). Leaving at 11am from the monument, in the morning we take a shorter route through the beech woodlands of Aldbury and Northchurch commons which typify the Chilterns in spring with carpets of bluebells. We'll return to the Monument for lunch. Either bring a packed lunch or take advantage of the Café at the Visitor Centre. Leaving at 2pm from the monument, in the afternoon we will head west dropping into the picturesque village of Albury before picking up the Ridgeway along the edge of the Chiltern escarpment with views to Ivinghoe Beacon in the distance. A short climb out of Incombe Hole into Crawley Wood which is carpeted with bluebells. Continuing through woods filled with wild garlic on the way to the famous Dockey Wood for a stunning bluebell display. Along the way, we'll pass through a gate bought by Chiltern Young Walkers. To finish the walk returning towards the Bridgewater Monument through the woods of Ivinghoe Common and more bluebells reaching the Café just before it closes Leader: Paul R. [masked]
